An Overview of the University

 Located in Mangaldai (Darrang district), Assam, Assam Skill institution (ASU) is a public state institution that was founded in 2021 under the Assam Skill University Act, 2020.  With a ₹1,000 cr investment and outside assistance from ADB, it seeks to combine vocational training with higher education, research, and entrepreneurship as the first skill-based university in Northeast India.  The university, which occupies around 83 acres, can accommodate about 10,000 students. The Governor of Assam, also known as the Chief Minister, acts as Chancellor, and Vice Chancellor Subhash Chandra Das was appointed in August 2021. With low employability (less than 35% of engineering graduates and about 50% of ITI certificate holders), outdated curricula, and insufficient trainers, ASU fills the skills gaps in Assam. It provides vocational diploma/certificate courses in addition to traditional degree programs through partnerships (such as the Memorandum of Understanding with Sainik Welfare & ADB), with an emphasis on employability, practical laboratories, and internships. 

 Admission and Eligibility for the Academic Year 2025–2026

 Apply online at www.asu.ac.in between April 30 and June 15, 2025. 

 Qualifications:

 Diploma: Science and Math in Class X

 UG (B.Tech/B.Sc, Integrated): Class XII (any stream for certificate courses; science stream for B.Tech) 

 PG (MBA, MTTM): Acknowledged graduation; national exams (CAT/MAT/XAT/GMAT/ATMA) and a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ST) are required for the MBA.

 Admission and tests:

 MBA: 30 spots available; CAT, MAT, XAT, etc. accepted. 

 Ph.D. programs in IT, mechanical engineering, and applied management are also offered; GATE eligibility is required.

In brief
